On July 11, 2014, legendary Tennessee journalist and First Amendment advocate John Seigenthaler passed away. Mr. Seigenthaler, 86, was the longtime editor and publisher of The Tennessean, founding editorial director of USA Today, and served as special assistant to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. He spent much of his professional life defending civil liberties.
A number of donors have chosen to honor Mr. Seigenthaler by contributing to the College of Mass Communication's John Seigenthaler Chair of Excellence in First Amendment Studies. The family has expressed its appreciation for these remembrances.
