Twenty-five years old and still going strong, the LSU Earth Scan Laboratory supports research, education and public service with near real-time and archival remotely sensed satellite data. Every few minutes, new data from NASA and NOAA satellites are received, processed, archived and disseminated via the Internet, providing time-critical information on hurricanes, ocean currents, oil spills and fires.
Compiled in this 9"x12" 18-month calendar are some of the most beautiful and memorable images ESL has captured. From its central location along the Gulf Coast, the ESL captures satellite data covering the entire Gulf of Mexico, most of the Western Atlantic, the extreme Eastern Pacific and the land mass from the Hudson Bay to the northern most part of South America. Data is permanently archived, creating a growing record of environmental data for education, research, economic and forensic applications.
