Entering its fifth-year anniversary, the Fresh Connect is Columbia College Chicago’s annual celebration of hip-hop culture, performance, and education. The evening is produced entirely by students in the Events Management Practicum course within the Department of Business & Entrepreneurship, and consists of performances, speeches, and interactive programming highlighting the five elements of hip-hop: MCing, breaking, graffiti, DJing, and history.

The goal of Fresh Connect is to celebrate and elevate hip-hop culture at Columbia and in Chicago. By developing the culture among student artists and connecting them with industry professionals, The Fresh Connect aims to gather investment for the Hip-Hop Studies Minor through the study of hip-hop and by continuing the practice of honoring the lifelong work of industry predecessors.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the student fundraising team of the Fresh Connect is launching the Fresh Connect Scholarship award. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to provide scholarship awards to up to five students in the Hip-Hop Studies Minor program at Columbia College Chicago. The Fresh Connect Scholarship  will provide opportunities for emerging artists to deepen their connections with the local community, develop their art, and become change-makers in the culture.
