There are a number of ways you can financially support the Scripps Gerontology Center and our mission. Below are various funds with a brief description as to how each fund supports the Center:
Scripps Enrichment Fund
This fund enhances the professional development of gerontology students by supporting them to attend and give presentations at professional meetings and conferences. Originally established by faculty and staff who donate honoraria they receive for speeches and technical assistance, this fund also provides a small amount of support for costs associated with thesis and dissertation research.
P. K. Whelpton Memorial Lecture Fund
This lecture series was established by an endowment from the Whelpton family to Miami University in memory of P. K. Whelpton and the impact of his work on the field of demography. Each year, we honor former Scripps Director P. K. Whelpton by inviting to campus a speaker of national and/or international eminence to address issues of demography and aging.
W. Fred Cottrell Leadership Development Fund
Endowed by the Cottrell family, this fund honors the contributions of W. Fred "Doc" Cottrell to the Scripps Gerontology Center and the field of aging. To reinforce Doc's legacy of intellectual leadership and service to others, this fund supports innovative opportunities for students that are focused on leadership, career development and aging at Miami University.
Opening Minds through Art
Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is a Scripps intergenerational art program for people with dementia. Students and community volunteers are paired with elders with dementia for a semester of art-making. In the process of creating beautiful art, friendships are formed and lives are changed. Donations will be used to purchase art supplies to support the program.
Scripps Gerontology Center- Alumni Fund
Established by Miami University's gerontology alumni, this fund promotes the professional development and future success of gerontology students by defraying the costs of thesis and dissertation research and supporting their participation in professional networks and activities.
E.W. Scripps Fund
You can make a donation that is not designated for one of the above-described accounts. These funds will be used to support the research and educational mission of the center.
